Buchecha Almeida is happy to take his MMA career one step at a time, but his next bout represents a significant step toward the heavyweight elite.
On August 26, the 17-time BJJ World Champion will take on former ONE Interim Heavyweight World Title challenger Kirill Grishenko on the main card of ONE on Prime Video 1: Morris vs. Johnson II live in North American primetime.
A victory would establish the mixed martial arts fighting legend as a legitimate world title threat, and he feels ready to make a big statement at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
“Yeah, it’s a big step. But I don’t like to think like that. When I debuted in ONE, Karel was making his debut at the same time, so we had the same amount of time at home, right?
“He’s got three fights in one. I’ve got three, going for a fourth. Before that, he didn’t have much experience in MMA, so I think it’s fair.
Many fans are interested to see how “Buchicha’s” legendary BJJ skills will translate to the sport against a variety of athletes.
So far, the Brazilian has beaten the trio of strikers with relative ease, but he will face a new kind of challenge in this upcoming match.
That’s because Grishenko was a standout Greco-Roman wrestler before making his switch to MMA, meaning Almeida should be ready with fresh answers on August 26.
“[Gryshenko] is a great fighter with a lot of experience in his wrestling background. So, it’s going to be really interesting because it’s going to be the first wrestler that I fight. If I want to get the belt one day. , so I need to pass all the tests. So he’s going to be huge, and I’m excited.”
Buchicha has extra motivation for ONE’s first Prime Video event.
Marcus “Bochicha” Almeida is off to a perfect 3-0 start in his MMA career and will be highly motivated in his next bout with Kuril Grishenko.
The stakes will be even higher with this showdown taking place in ONE Championship’s first prime video event, as fans in North America will witness the action live in prime time.
“Buchicha” is certainly excited about the opportunity to compete – and to put on an even more impressive performance.
The 32-year-old said:
“One hundred percent [it’s more motivation], especially for me, because I’m just starting the game. And these guys who have been fighting for so long are already legends in the game. And for me, To have the opportunity to fight on the same card together is a blessing.
Above all, “Buchicha” feels the Prime Video partnership will be a game-changer for the world’s largest martial arts organization, especially with such a stacked lineup at ONE on Prime Video 1.
He’s expecting incredible action throughout the card – headlined by a world title rematch between Adriano Morris and Demetrius Johnson – and even bigger things in the future.
The Brazilian added:
“It’s going to be huge for America and the fans here. I think it’s going to be a huge step for the fighters, the organization and everything. And of course, we’re coming to American soil at 100 percent strength.”
