Tiger Woods has been the unofficial face of the golf world since joining the tour in 1996.
So, it seems only fitting that after a nine-year hiatus, Woods has returned from the video game wilderness.
On Wednesday, the 15-time major confirmed that he will be the face of PGA Tour 2K23, a 2K Sports creation.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday evening, Woods wrote: ‘Excited and honored to be the cover athlete for #PGATOUR2K23! More to come from @PGATOUR2K on 8/22! #MoreGolfMoreGame.’
Woods was last featured on a gaming cover in 2013, appearing before EA Sports’ PGA Tour.
More details will be released on August 22nd, where 2K will explain the various features of the game along with the cover.
The 46-year-old has been a towering figure in the games throughout his career, which began in 1998. Then, he signed a deal with EA Sports and appeared on their covers until 2013.
Woods’ most recent cover was titled, ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14,’ which included the LPGA for the first time.
Rory McIlroy took over as the face of EA’s golfing games in 2015. The Northern Irishman also took center stage on Wednesday, praising Woods’ leadership and legacy on tour.
“We’re all great players, but we’re not Tiger Woods,” McIlroy said.
‘He is the hero we all look up to and his voice is louder than anyone else in the game of golf. His character is taking us to a place where we all think we should be.
‘I think it’s pretty clear that every time we all come into a room there’s an alpha and it’s not me. He is very caring.’
