Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of India Twenty20 World Cup squad

Jasprit Bumrah is out of the race to be fit for India’s Twenty20 World Cup squad and has withdrawn from the tournament due to a back problem. Bumrah is one of the premier seam bowlers in world cricket and his absence is a major blow to the Indian cause in this month’s tournament. It’s far from unexpected news, with the 28-year-old being sent to Bengaluru for specialist consultation following his withdrawal from the ongoing series against South Africa, but it’s a decision the Indian camp was hoping to avoid.

Bumrah could be replaced by Mohammad Shami, who was named as a reserve in the 15-man squad along with fellow fast bowler Deepak Chahar, but after Mohammad Siraj was also called up as cover for the last two matches. It is likely to come into the conversation. A statement from the Proteas’ Board of Control for Cricket in India, read: “The BCCI medical team has dropped Team India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad. The decision is subject to a detailed review.” After consultation with experts. Bumrah was initially ruled out of the ongoing three-match T20I series against South Africa due to a back injury. BCCI will soon include Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement in the squad for the marquee tournament.
