T20 World Cup: When will Shaheen Afridi join national squad

Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is scheduled to join the national squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Australia 2022 in Brisbane on Saturday (October 15).

Confirming the news, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said that the decision was taken after the star player underwent a rehabilitation program under the supervision of PCB’s Medical Advisory Committee.

“I am very excited at the prospect of joining the national team again for the T20 World Cup and playing my part in the campaign. It has been difficult for me to be away from the game and the team I love the most, and No, be a part of some tough and exciting matches,” Afridi said.

He will be available for selection for the warm-up matches against England and Afghanistan on October 17 and 19, during which the team management will assess his match fitness.

Afridi shared that he has been bowling trouble-free six to eight overs with full run-up and pace for the past 10 days.

“While I have enjoyed bowling and batting in the nets, nothing can replace the atmosphere of a match and I can’t wait to be in that setting.

“It’s been a tough and challenging recovery program, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. To be honest, I’m feeling fitter than ever and can’t wait to get back into playing kit,” he said. added.

Meanwhile, opener Fakhar Zaman, one of the three traveling reserves for the T20 World Cup, will also travel to Brisbane along with Afridi and National High-Performance Center coach Umar Rashid.

Fakhar will complete his rehabilitation under the supervision of PCB Chief Medical Officer and team Dr. Najeebullah Soomro, after which his inclusion will be decided if required.
