On Monday, Liverpool FC forward Roberto Firmino was left out of Brazil’s World Cup squad. That should come as no surprise to anyone who has followed Tite’s selections of Firmino over the last few years. Still, there was some hope that Firmino’s mini-resurgence this season, with six goals and three assists, would propel him back into the mix.
The Brazilian forward thanked fans for their messages to him in an Instagram post:
“Stopping by to thank you for all of your lovely messages.” Every player’s dream is to play in the World Cup, and it would be no different for me.”
I’d like to take this opportunity to pay my respects and congratulate everyone who has been summoned. It was, is, and always will be an honor to defend my country, especially with the gift the Lord bestowed upon me. I stay here, trusting that God has the best plans for me and hoping that Hexa appears.”
“For I know the plans I have for you,” the Lord says, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
